What is an an overview of the Elite Team
Our programme provides members with the opportunity to train and perform within a professional sports entertainment environment while developing both personally and as performers. The team proudly serves as the official cheerleading team for Plymouth Raiders Basketball Club and Plymouth Argyle Women’s Football Club.
Members perform at home games, seasonal showcases, and select special appearances across the Plymouth community, working with experienced coaches to deliver high-energy performances that enhance the game-day experience for fans.
As the senior team within our development pathway, members also serve as role models and ambassadors for younger students within the programme, inspiring and supporting participants aged 4 to 16 years old as they progress through our cheerleading pathway.
This programme offers a unique platform for performers to gain experience within the professional sports environment, develop performance skills, and represent leading South West sporting organisations while performing in front of live audiences.
What is the age requirement?
Our current squad includes dancers up to 37 years old, so whether you’re a seasoned performer or looking to take on a new challenge, we encourage you to audition.
Minimum age: 16+ (candidates must be at least 16 by September 2025).
What is the term of team membership?
Following successful selection at auditions, team members will officially join the programme beginning with the first training session on the 13th May 2026.
Team membership will continue throughout the season, concluding at the end of April 2027.
What is the audition process?
No prior preparation or solo performances are required for the audition. Candidates will begin by taking part in a group warm-up, followed by learning a short routine consisting of six counts of eight.
Once the choreography has been taught, candidates will perform the routine in small groups of four in front of the Head Coach for evaluation.
The performance element is just as important as the choreography, and candidates are encouraged to demonstrate energy, confidence, and strong stage presence throughout the routine.
Auditions will be recorded solely for the purpose of enabling the coaching team to review performances during the selection process. All footage will be securely deleted once final selections have been made.
Following auditions, the top 22 dancers will be selected to join the team, and successful candidates will be contacted directly.
What if I make a mistake?
If a mistake is made during the choreography, it is more important to continue performing and confidently pick the routine back up again. We will be looking at how candidates recover, maintain performance quality, and stay engaged.
We recognise that everyone is human, and the audition is not designed to catch anyone out. Our aim is simply to give each candidate the opportunity to present the best of their abilities in a supportive and positive environment. We are rooting for you to do well!
Are there any fees or costs associated with joining?
There is no cost to audition for the team.
A £25 annual membership fee is payable by June 2026, which contributes towards insurance and operational expenses.
There are no ongoing class or training fees. The programme provides 2.5 hours of coached training each week throughout the season at no additional cost, alongside performance opportunities at professional sporting events.
Opportunities to receive weekly coached training and perform within a professional sports environment without class or performances fees are extremely rare, and members are therefore expected to demonstrate strong commitment to the team, consistent attendance at training, and full participation in scheduled performances throughout the season.
The only additional costs to members are for a small number of personal uniform items.
Game day dresses are provided through sponsorship funding.
What are the commitments required?
If selected for the programme and ultimately the final team, required commitments include weekly training sessions held every Wednesday from 6:00pm–8:30pm throughout the season.
Team members will perform at a variety of events across the season, including approximately 10 basketball games, 5 football games, the Summer Show, the Christmas Show, and additional appearances in the community as scheduled.
Members are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of all scheduled performances during the season.
We recognise that members may have additional responsibilities, and specific allowances can be made during exam periods or for childcare/carer commitments when communicated in advance.

Is there a social element to the team?
Yes. While the programme is focused on training, performance, and representing our partner organisations professionally, being part of the team also offers a strong social and community element.
Members train together each week, perform at events across the season, and share many memorable experiences as a team. This often leads to strong friendships and a supportive team environment.
Throughout the season we also organise a number of optional team socials, including a Christmas meal, end-of-season celebration, and other informal gatherings. Team members may also have opportunities to attend selected Plymouth Raiders events and club functions, providing further chances to connect as a team and be part of the wider sports community.
